Calvinism in a Nutshell (John MacArthur)

Calvinism is sweet ointment poured out, full of blessing and comfort and assurance.


But there is a fly in the ointment that maketh the apothecary to stink.


It is the doctrine of double predestination. That  all others than the church are predestined unto damnation. The fact is Calvin boo booed. He was caught off guard by a question by one of his students, "If we are predestined unto salvation does this mean all others are predestined to hell"?


It caught Calvin unprepared and history notes that he hesitated, he thought a long while on how to answer. He eventually had to confess that this was the logical conclusion. But he was wrong.


Scripture doesn't say a word about that. Predestination only concerns the church, being called to be the church, elected to the Body of Christ ... it does not exclude anybody else from being saved.


Total Depravity and Limited Atonement are brought in to justify this doctrine.
