I have to admit I have never been a fan of the MacArthur Bibles and commentaries.  They just feel a little agenda based self serving to me.   But have to admit I have enjoyed and gained from listening to his lectures.

A double edge sword to me I guess.
His Bibles I do not use. He has reinterpreted many that have been reinterpreted by someone else. He once was asked about the NIV Bible and straightly said, it was not the Bible but the person who read that Bible, did they really care what they were reading?    Then recently, I heard he had been asked to redo the NIV. A little later a MacArthur NIV version came out. Have not gotten a chance to look at it but he had to change a lot., Hopefully.

I like His videos of Strange Fire sessions where they ask Him questions...Sometimes, they still have some with R.C. Sproul. I like Him, He is a good teacher...A bit deep for most to understand.

Here I am rambling again, My apologies...

I always felt that MacArthur was far too conservative, but reading his sermons and his commentaries are enlightening and inspiring at times.
We have a Seminary here that is based on John Wesley, we have one based on Spurgeon, the interesting thing is both use MacArthur extensively.

You pretty well named it Mark....John took 40 years,,, (40 years) to go through the NT word by word, verse by verse, quoting God's word and never strayed...Yes, there are some things, I have a problem  with but they are nothing than a potato or potahto.

He speak no authority of his own but rather speaks of the authority of GOD....

I am moderate in my approach to the application but the bright line in the reading of scriptures.  They are what they are and that's it.   What I allow is for how a person applies those scriptures to their life.   I have always felt a person journey to God is theirs and not mine to dictate.  I will give my guidance and thoughts if asked, but nothing more.

I had an incident as a Chaplain with a motorcycle group of a young lady and baptism that drove that point home, where the ultra-conservative minister in the group had condemned her and told her she was going to rot in hell and that was a good thing.  Me I talked to her at length.

Our words as people of faith have a huge impact on those in need and pain, we should always think and chose our words wisely.   That is what John MacArthur did in his commentaries.  He knew the power of his words and he chose them wisely.

As you already know, I use him as a reference is some cases. I have not been called to the ministry thereby I do not use the 6th part of reading the Bible. That is as you say, application to a persons life....I simply try to teach and help some understand there is a better way (pun intended)

Thank you for all you do
