Is Suicide a Sin? | What if a Christian Commits Suicide?

A question I get asked a lot, and this week I had dozens of requests for this topic. If Christians commit suicide do they lose their salvation? Or when Christians commit suicide do they keep their salvation.

We run through several key verses that show the full picture of the fact that suicide is not God's plan, that we have been commanded to fight evil to the best of our ability, but that if we fail God does not ditch us or damn us - he loves us regardless.

I agree with much of what was shared.

Of course 'sin' is anything that 'misses the mark' of one's true purpose, highest calling or potential,...and taking one's life prematurely obviously would seem to harm or retard one's condition of happiness, peace, well-being, and end at least temporarily any positive gains of life-experience if allowed to continue in the physical body.

The after-math of loved ones is also devestating dealing with the loss, which sends shock-waves of grief, depression, guilt through the community. This can even affect physical health as well.

As far as the soul itself, since love is infinite, divine providence will provide all that is needed for any soul to heal, recover, be restored and to attain the full blessing of immortality, according to divine will, so that any soul as long as it avails itself of the grace of God, and responds to that love, having the ability to repent and choose LIFE...may do so, according to God's will. In this respect I hold to the classic Spiritualist principles which favors a more universal approach to 'salvation'.

The key to remember here is that God's love is INFINITE, - as long as a soul can respond to God's call,  can repent and choose LIFE,...there is always hope.

IF one believes in the totality of God's WORD, how can they even contemplate that someone can end their life prematurely?  Don't think they are the believers they say they are.

It is a bare saying, But there is one thing that is certainly going to happen to me and you.   We are going to Die ON TIME. Not early, not later but ON TIME.

Most, if not all, people who commit suicide are mentally ill, clinically depressed. Christians get sick. To accuse them of "not being the believers they say they are" is like putting out a fire with gasoline.

Suicide violates "Thou shall not kill". It is a sin against family and friends and against God. But God takes all things into account, resulting in what we call "diminished culpability". Nobody goes to hell for being sick.

A true Christian will no commit suicide....they know what is awaiting them and the act of suicide would send the suicide-ee  to HELL.

[/quote] It's GOD who determines what a true Christian is, not you. All you have offered in this thread is religious condemnation, without reconciling God's mercy with His justice. Without post-mortem purification, one is left with pain and perplexity, just as Joe expressed. I don't have that problem. You should look up "clinical depression". I get the impression you haven't a clue of all that it entails. Heartless religious fanaticism concerning the fate of souls of suicidals and the survivors is all you got. So sad...

don't do it

Yes, it is a sin but it is not the sin that will send you to HELL.
