THE CHURCH IS NOT THE BRIDE OF CHRIST
« on: December 09, 2020, 09:46:16 am »
2 Corinthians 11:2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Paul here is not saying the church, the body of Christ, is the bride of Christ. Paul is using espousal to illustrate the faithfulness and purity of the church unto Christ Jesus.

The relationship the church has with Christ is expressed by marriage. Christ is the head of the church just as the husband is head of the wife (Ephesians 5:23).

Paul is admonishing the church for following other apostles and another gospel (2 Corinthians 11:4).

The bride of Christ is a city as seen by Revelation 21:9-10.

Doug, Who is speaking here......Paul cannot enspouse anyone to GOD. On the other hand, GOD tells Paul that He is godly Jealous of him because he gave Paul to one Husband because He presented you as a Chaste Virgin to His Son, Jesus Christ

The relationship the church has with Christ is expressed by marriage. Christ is the head of the church just as the husband is head of the wife (Ephesians 5:23)

You have this part right!

Paul is admonishing the church for following other apostles and another gospel (2 Corinthians 11:4).

"For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus..."
2Cor 11:4(a)..

Yes, you are right here too. buit it has nothing to Rem, Jesus Christ as GOD has inspired, given Paul all these words to write....Jesus is speaking to you (us) through the 44 writers of the Bible.

The bride of Christ is a city as seen by Revelation 21:9-10.

NO and YES.....In Rev 19:7-9 with verse 9 telling us the bride are the saints! for they are all dressed in clean white linen (reserved for the saints), yet in Rev 21:9-10 we see the New Jerusalem, the home to the Bride) shining as beautiful as any bride would be...

However, if one looks Rev 21:2 "And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband."

In this apparent contradiction, this verse is telling us the New City of Jerusalem is as beautiful as a New Bride.   The same as being said in verses 9-10 with a twist.

I see no problem as I am going to be as a Bride to Jesus Christ and Live in a New City  called Jerusalem that will be just as beautiful as a brand new Bride.

Look at this verse as well:

Hosea 52:1  Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.

Doug, notice to who this is written, O ZION, Israel. Beautiful garments are not those garments of the saints. The New World without oceans has just been given to the people surviving the Millennium. There are no more unbelievers ("into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.") and most likely (we are not told) that GOD installs His New Covenant on those Gentiles of the Millennium. The Jews do not need it for it was given to them prior to the millennium. The Saints, living in Heaven (not on Earth) are Kings and Priests of those nations of the world except Israel. It is also not clear that Jerusalem ever touches the ground on earth as there is no need for a sun as the darkness is no more. The light comes from Jerusalem (God) himself. Rem, tyhe tree of life was in Jerusalem during the millennium and is also in the new Jerusalem as well. Only those that can have children, mortals (like during the millennium) need this to live from year to year forever.(1)

All the nations on earth during the millennium will be required to visit Jerusalem
once per year of not receive rain. This appears to be a model for the New Jerusalem as well....mortals living on earth and the need for a tree of life.

We are told very little about the time after the Great Judgement other than the New Earth does not have oceans, etc. This would increase the land by 2/3.

Of, course all those who are translated cannot have children as their bodies are different. (1 Cor 15:51-54).

There is no mention of anyone from the millennium will be redeemed to heaven.
We just do not know?
