JOHN 3:16 THE SON IS GIVEN
« on: July 25, 2019, 08:48:12 am »
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

God gave his only begotten Son to the world and sent Jesus from heaven so all would believe on him for everlasting life. This verse is not referring to Jesus's death on the cross in saying that God gave the Son. John was not revealing what was revealed to Paul, that Jesus would justify Jew and Gentile by the cross. God sent him into the world so all would believe in Jesus as being the Messiah, the Son of God and by believing receive eternal life and be saved to enter the kingdom on earth.

John 3:27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

God sent his Son from heaven and by believing the word and the Son one could be saved.

John 3:31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.

Jesus was sent from heaven so all would believe on him as Messiah and the Son of God for eternal life and be delivered from wrath.

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

John 3:16 is about Isaiah 9:6 which also tells us to whom He was given in His earthly ministry (the "us" of Isaiah 9:6 being none other than Israel)! :)
Romans 16:1 I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea:
Romans 16:2 That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also.

Phebe, yes you are right.... the KJV defines this a little more. Isa 9:6 (KJV).."For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

Notice the (highlighted words) "for unto us" is indeed Israel, as Isaiah was speaking of himself as a recipient of Jesus Christ.

John 3:16:  As with many verses that Jesus refers to in the OT, He brings His words to life in the NT with a new meaning. The old testament was a prophecy of the son Israel will be receiving. In the NT, John 3:16, Jesus tells us that the son was also given to the world.

1 Cor 15:3-4.."For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"

Acts 17:11.."These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."
