STOP trying to be a GOOD person!

Struggling desperately to be good?
+++BIBLE REFERENCES BELOW+++

Galatians 3:22
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved... how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Romans 5:1-2
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Romans 8:5-10
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Galatians 5:16-17
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.  For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

Galatians 2:20
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Romans 12:5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ

Philippians 3:8-10
Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Hearing, believing and trusting the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross; His death, burial and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins and REPENTING, seals us with that Holy Spirit of Promise - EPHESIANS 1:10-14 KJV - The Lord is not slack concerning His promise. 2 Peter 3:9 KJV - 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV - Ephesians 1:10-14 KJV - Romans 10:9-10 KJV - Romans 10:13 - Romans 10:17 - Ephesians 1:7 KJV - Colossians 1:14 KJV -

As a practicing Catholic for most of my life (although not now), I always kind of envied OSAS Christians who didn't have the weight of Catholic guilt bearing down on them all the time, of being in constant danger of dying without confession after sinning enough that purgatory wouldn't fix it and hell was the only option...

You know the one thing I always appreciated about Catholics is the accountability factor.  I have witnessed far too many of the OSAS individuals acting in a manner that is inconsistent with Christ-like behavior.   To be specific, I am thinking of many of the heroes on another forum.   Some of the comments are so far over the line, you have to wonder "what kind of a person raised you".

I don't expect perfection ... however, I expect better than ...

"I can't wait until you are burning in hell" ...

OR accusations which are sexually provocative or malicious ...

Thankfully we haven't had to deal with that here or on TF ....

But the point is .... that kind of behavior is not being a *good person* ... and sets a horrible example.

Have you ever considered they just might not be a Christian, A 'True Christian' which would explain the "Bad Behavior".

I can't really answer whether they are or not.  However, I don't see them as representative of Christianity.

I felt tremendous guilt and shame in the past and I attribute that to being Catholic, baptized and in school there until 5th grade. I know I've told you this b4 anna but it shocked me so much as a child that I can't resist telling it again.

We went to church service everyday and studied religion (Catholic) in class everyday as well. So, I asked one day if I was on my way to confession and got hit by a car and killed, would I be forgiven?

She said point blank, "No, you go to hell" - Wow !!!

I was brainwashed and it affects me still.

People can have a relationship with deity, persons not so much.

For YHWH... regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:

I don't know, maybe I am wrong but it seems like a lot of people are on one end of the spectrum or the other with only a few having a middle ground approach to living a righteous life.

Here is what I mean....one side seems to say, don't worry about it, all is forgiven we can do whatever we want and call it righteous because of Christ....the other extreme is to beat ourselves (some even take that literally) into being obedience.

Seems to me that living a righteous life is a combination of Christ's righteousness imputed to us and us using ever tool God has given us to maintain that righteousness.  Kind of like a symbiotic relationship.  Just some thoughts for what it's worth.

The Christian idea of imputation of righteousness doesn't work well because justice looks to the truth alone, but Christianity looks to faith or belief which can be misplaced.

The seven letters to the Churches in Rev. tell us that there are those individuals in every Church that will overcome and become True Christians. This includes Thyatira (the Catholic Church).

Believe in 1 Cor 15:1-4 and your will be in good company for an eternity.

I totally get that, unfortunately, including still being affected by it.  :/

Anna:

David prayed to  GOD in Psalms 19:12-13.."Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. v13. Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression."

We find that other prayers of David along the same lines: Psalm 139:23-24.."Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: v24. And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

Another prayer David used: Psalm 51:6.."Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom."

In Hebrews 12:15, Paul tells us about a "root of Bitterness"..."Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;"

Many times we don't know these "roots of Bitterness" are around until God points them out to us. As one lovely Lady of GOD stated prior to her death, "God wants this hidden part-this secret place-cleansed of "secret faults" and then filled with all precious and pleasant riches; i.e., God's Wisdom."

Understanding that all of us have these hidden places that crop up from time to time. We need help and there is no better that the Holy Spirit of GOD to remove those hidden faults/thoughts,etc. and replace them with good things as spoken of above.

May God bless you for realizing that you needed to seek GOD in other places than the Catholic Church. You listened to him then, seek His remedy for this problem as well now.
