Will you stand or not? Why or why not?
« on: January 21, 2019, 11:55:27 am »
Some time ago, our son's Sunday School was talking about persecution, freedom, etc.  When the students were asked who they knew that would stand firm in the face of persecution, no one answered.  So the teacher began asking specifics, like, pastor?  When asked about the assistant pastor our son said, "maybe maybe not" which got him in trouble lol.  Anyway, as the discussion continued a friend said to me that her kids didn't know about anyone but us...that we would for sure stand firm...now that is encouraging but to be honest, it is equally humbling because the truth is I don't know if we would or not....I would like to think we would but if face to face, would we?

I have a very dear Haitian friend who had soldiers shoot up his house while he and his wife and children hide under the bed till it was over...

I heard a story of a woman whose kids took her eyes so she couldn't see scripture, cut out her tongue so she couldn't speak of God, cut off her ears so she couldn't hear of God and cut off her hands so she couldn't hold scripture....

In  Nigeria where my husband spent 6 of his first 7 years of life, Christians often fled up the side of the mountains to flee persecution....

The early church was persecuted badly and some were killed for their faith....

The stories of severe persecution go on and on....

Right now I am studying endurance and afflictions in scripture and so all in all I thought it would be an interesting question to post.  Persecuted brothers and sisters around the world is not a new thing.  In fact we need to pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters.  We have believers here in the US that face persecution.  The question however, is in the depths of the worse persecution you can imagine or have heard of, will you stand firm to the end?  Why or why not?

That's a good question. When it comes to spiritual warfare, there have been times that I barely escaped with my life. I can't even describe how hard that was. But it could have been worse. Faith and trust in God no matter what happens helped me to endure that. And it continues to help me to endure it.

If I didn't have faith and trust in God then I wouldn't have a chance of standing firm to the end. Because that kind of strength comes from God and not from us. We can't do it on our own.

amen...as I was looking into this question I was reminded that for many of us, it is easy to say yes I would stand firm because I love God more than even my life...but what happens when the threat is against others if I do not renounce God...that puts a whole new spin on persecution.

Yes that's very true. And would we put our lives on the line to try to save someone, especially a child, whose life is being threatened even if it means that we will be physically attacked and severely injured or worse especially when we're outnumbered.

I was trying to add a layer...the child of someone we believe to be our enemy?  Just more layers, nothing more or less

I absolutely would stand up for that kid even if it cost me my life...which it almost did. I was physically attacked and injured and my life was threatened in clear terms.

This does have to do with persecution as it relates to spiritual warfare.

I listened to a speaker telling a story about a "man of Islam" who took his very young boy to a hill every day of the youngsters life. The hill had nothing special on it so the speaker ask the man WHY he took his son to the top of that hill every day. The man answered him forthwith. "I show him the land beyond and the people with in it. I tell him that it is his destiny in life to kill as many of those people as he can". It just so happen these people are Jewish. They were looking to the land of Israel.

During Vietnam, it was not unusual for "Charlie" Viet-Cong, to force a child to hide an unpinned grenade and approach the Americans with a child's demeanor.

I heard  of one incident where a serviceman had befriended a local child. This went on for weeks until one day the kid let a grenade go off in a loaded helicopter. WHY would a child do this? The enemy forced the child to do this to save his mother.

Satan has no SPECIAL morals when it comes to children!

These  children's lives in any case are more than threatened. They were both used as a "Trojan Horse" to say the least.

If one says 'YES', then many will die including the child and the results will benefit the enemy. If one says NO, then an innocent or not so innocent child will die.  I think this is a Judgement call on behalf of the would-be Florence Nightingale.

I would like think most all true Christians would give their life for a child and there is a very good possibility they would give their life for an enemy's children hoping it would bring the enemy closer to Jesus.

As for myself, I would like to think that if faced with this scenario, I would have the courage to make the right decision (judgment) at that time. One never knows until they cross that bridge!

I guess I'm going to have to be a little more specific in order to make what I'm saying make sense. I was trying not to go into too much detail because the last time I went into details about this on a forum someone made a joke out of it by talking about Batman.... It's a very serious subject, a matter of life and death not to be taken lightly and certainly nothing to joke about and so I asked the mods to delete the thread. It had been just totally derailed and turned into a joke.

Anyway, what I was referring to about this child happened in a Christian church or should I say what was supposed to be a Christian church. But it had been taken over by some very evil people. I was 14 years old at the time and I was trying to help this child but I was outnumbered and overpowered and physically attacked and injured. I was trying to stop what was happening but I couldn't. That's really all I want to say about it.

My apologies. I thought you speaking subjectively about A child of the enemy, etc. Did not know you were talking about a personal experience!
