How should we Love?
« on: July 14, 2020, 08:04:59 am »
There is a lot of talk about how to Love others, we are to Love others the way we Love ourselves.  Luke 10:27 but few of us understand how we love ourselves, especially those that don't like themselves much.

So let's look at John 13:34...“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. WE are here told to Love others the way Christ Loved us...so what then does that tell us about how we Love ourselves?  What are some specifics on how to Love?

Before Jesus gave us his commandment to love one another as he loved himself, there were Socrates and Plato setting the stag to love openly in all its forms.  They looked love from the view of eros all the way to what they considered the highest form of love - platonic love.   Part of there discussion was the love of "logos"

Then Jesus of Nazareth came into the world and he preached a whole new level of love.

So when I put it all together we have in my philosophical view, been given a truly wonderful gift,  philosophy of how to love other, which we ignored.  Then the Christ told us how to love others, which most ignore.

So in my long-winded answer.  We have to love ourselves as we want others to love us and how we know God loves us.  To do anything less is then not to spread the love of God.

Just my humble opinion.
Say each prayer as if it is your very last conversation with God and live each day as your last day to glorify God by your actions and words.”

No offense to you but sometimes I get tired of asking questions no one wants to think about enough to discuss.  To that point, last night my husband and I touched on this topic...we came up with we are to Love ourselves with humility...iow's we are to not only be humble but as in the words of C S Lewis, not think less of ourselves but think of ourselves less.  Likewise, we are to Love ourselves with a lavished Love.  This is an interesting one in that we are primarily talking about spiritual lavishness, as in study of scripture, prayer, etc.  But that does NOT mean we ignore the physical just that the spiritual is the focus and all too often we ignore lavishing ourselves spiritually in exchange for helping or "loving" others.

Hopefully we will get time to talk about more.  Thanks for your imput.
