What do you fear?
« on: November 27, 2018, 12:53:24 pm »
When I think of the topic of fear, two passages come to mind....the first is 2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

and Proverbs 9:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

So I thought maybe we could talk about fear....different kinds of fears, how to deal with fear, what fears are good and what are bad, etc.

I do fear God and I have a healthy fear of heights but other than that not much fear here. I fear death because I don't know how I will die so I fear the unknown. I feel safe and protected by God.

Most of my fears are of a parental, more worldly nature.  I worry about my kids health and safety.

Fear of death is common and talked about in scripture.  Personally I don't fear death, I welcome it but I do fear dying a slow painful, prolonged death...when I die I just want to die, end of story.....my favorite would be to fall asleep and wake in the arms of my Lord.

I know that one all too well.  It really hit me hard after our son died.  for a season I was fearful from anything our other kids wanted to do.  I have reconciled that with God now but in a way, all our kids were lost that day.  (long story)

What do I fear? If I was asked that question many years ago there would be a long list of fears. But I've seen and experienced so much in my life that there's not much left that I fear anymore. I do worry for my family, my children and grandchildren. Because there is so much that they don't know so they're not on guard and too trusting. They would probably rather not know and I can't really blame them but that puts them in danger. They don't see the world as it really is. All I can do is pray for them to be protected.

If we are completely honest with ourselves as Christians, I think the biggest fear I have is that there is no God.

I might have said the same at one time but God has made Himself very clear to me.

Story time....When I was in high school I was sitting at home one day sewing.  My sister came in the room and laid on my shoulders.  I asked her to move and she refused.  I told her to move and like siblings sometimes do, she refused.  At this point I took ahold of her arms and set her off of me.  My sister went running to my father and cried that I had scratched her, showing him an old scratch that was healing as "proof".  My father went nuts, took off his belt and began beating me with it.  If you had been witnessing that event you probably would have thought that I was getting the beating of my life, but God and I had a secret.  You see, that day that belt never touched me.  God literally stood between me and that beating.  There were neither marks from the contact nor pain from the contact, the only pain was the pain of the sins that I had committed that drove Christ to the cross.  That day I literally experienced Isaiah 53 "by His stripes I am healed".

Just one of many instances that have convinced me beyond any doubt that God is and that One day I will see Him in all of His glory.

I too have seen enough evidence to convince me that God is with us and real. In my weaker moments of faith I just worry if there is no God when I die or sometime after death. It would be the biggest disappointment ever but I guess we wouldn't know anything, so nothing to fear.

I guess what I have come for understand is that at least in the here and now I have a purpose for living that I see so many people don't have....maybe for me at least that is enough to give glory to God no matter.

[/quote]Amen sister. I have always felt that I'm a child of God and that I am living for God and because of God. I believe so strongly that I will tell anyone I meet. That's what drives me to be on forums and post scripture and Bible study lessons. Ignorance is a sin believe it or not. Ignorance of God's word and will, I mean. So many people think they "know enough" and they think they're saved but they may not be.
