The sound doctrine of obedience....
« on: January 03, 2020, 09:01:32 am »
I am finishing a study on what is the sound doctrines we are to hold to, to stand firm on.  One such doctrine is that of obedience.

Some on these boards believe that our salvation is found in our obedience.  Others believe that our obedience flows out of our Love for the Living God.

I personally say this...James 2:18

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Where do you stand on this sound doctrine and why?

Faith is shown by works and a faith without works is a dead faith, not efficacious for anything. As a living body will do things, so a living faith will do the will of GOD.

But then you have John 3:16.....for after justification comes sanctification, the process of walking in the commandments of Jesus.

It is what the Bible says.
2 Thes 2:13..(KJV).."But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:"

I could say, "I have faith" but would my actions/deeds/works show that I have faith? Someone may say to me, "you say you have faith but show me the proof or evidence of your faith. Anyone can say the words "I have faith".

James 2:14 What good is it my brethren, if a man says, 'I have faith', and he does not have deeds? Can his faith save him? 15 And if a brother or sister is naked and lacking daily food, 16 And any of you will say to them, "Go in peace, be warm, be full", and he would not give them the bodily necessities, what good is that? 17 So also faith alone without works is dead.

20 Are you willing to know, oh feeble man, that faith without works is dead*? 21 Was not our father Abraham justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son upon the altar? 22 Do you see that his faith upheld his deeds and by deeds his faith was perfected? 23 And the Scripture was fulfilled which said, "Abraham believed in God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness", and he was called the friend* of God. 24 You see that by works a man is justified and not from faith alone. 25 In this way also, was not Rahab the harlot justified by works when she received the scouts and sent them out by another way? 26 Just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
