Self Discipline
« on: July 02, 2019, 08:55:23 am »
I have been in some recent discussions about God's discipline on us, but how many of us practice self discipline?  What helps you to discipline yourself?

I Corinthians 9:24 Don’t you know that the runners in a stadium all race, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way to win the prize. 25 Now everyone who competes exercises self-control in everything. However, they do it to receive a crown that will fade away, but we a crown that will never fade away. 26 Therefore I do not run like one who runs aimlessly or box like one beating the air. 27 Instead, I discipline my body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

I know it's the right thing and I feel better when I practice self discipline.

Some things I have done/do is to try to guard my heart and mind from the things in the world that bring me down and affect me spiritually. To try harder to show the fruit of the spirit. To study God's word. To crucify the flesh with its passions and desires. To persevere under trial and not be afraid. To stay watchful and on guard against the attacks of the enemy. To keep my faith and trust in God strong no matter what. To be more like Jesus who set the perfect example for us to follow. To never give up and never lose hope.

I know I have this thread on both forums but one you hit on that deserves repeating is to persevere...repeatedly we are told to persevere and yet it seems like we rarely talk about it...amen.

Good evening Lori, Hope this finds you well...... You did not think I was going to quit talking to you, did you???

perseverance is the Last Point on Tulip. The acronym for The Election Doctrine or Calvinist Doctrine

Many have a problem with this word as they say: we are already saved so why do I have to have perseverance?

They forget about the Crowns that one wins while serving the Lord after ones justification.

Perseverance--- "Hang in there in todays" language.

Thank you for bringing it up.
