All night, my mind has been quoting John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

as if it was a song stuck in my head.  So it got me wondering why if the Son has set us free do we so often live as if we are still slaves.  I am not talking about the occasional sin but rather the idea that we sin every day, the condition of way too many local churches where people are always being hurt.  Even in communities like this where personal attacks can be common and even things that are spoken in Love are twisted into personal attacks when they aren't because we want to play victim....our sins are rampant when we should be living as those who have been set free....why? and how can we live as free people?

Great topic. I have been doing my own study on Salvation and how to understand the free gift. I will be posting another Study Thread on the subject soon. This can be a great discussion of what Christ did for us, which is beyond measure.

I'm looking forward to it.

Actually, our own inadequate ability to reconcile ourselves, shows the heighth depth and width of the love of Christ.
To each his own.

Several years into my study of Biblical, Agape Love I asked my husband if he had any idea the topic was this large.  He and I agreed, where we understood from the standpoint of scripture talking about how huge it was, we had no real understanding of it until we had been studying it for awhile.

Because there's a difference between obeying the Lord and being submissive toward YHWH. The book of Hosea has the background for this idea.

please go on...as I understand scripture, if we yield to Him, He equips us and helps us to be righteous which was what separated us in the first place.

Yeilding or surrender is a good first step, what follows is finding something to replace the behaviour which you have abandoned. Repentance is a similar path, but that involves knowledge of specific attitudes which are incompatible with the intent of deity regarding your life. Acquiring that knowledge requires discipline lest you miss the essentials or focus of minutae.

God (the father) called his Son a 'Servant'. Jesus call himself a servant in Mat. then in:

Mark 10:43-45.."But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister: v.44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. v. 45...For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many. "

**Minister= Servant-(Slave)

to be a servant (slave) is to be closer to Jesus as He still serves us all today.

Why should we want to remove ourselves from a way of life that Jesus recommends/commands.

I think a lot of it has to do with the term slave or servant...we are taught that being a slave or servant is a bad thing when in reality it lifts us up and gives us a much better life: that is if our slavery or servanthood is to the right Master.

Slavery in the Bible was self-imposed for debts, etc. (i.e. the 7 years Jacob worked for Rachel, got Leah and then worked another 7 years for
for Rachel).

Indentured Servitude (servants) was used widely in the OT. It was the honorable way of acquiring land, a wife, animals, etc.
