How many right interpretations are there to scripture?
« on: October 05, 2018, 12:48:46 pm »
The early church understood that with One God came One Spirit, thus One understanding.  So the question posed today is how many right interpretations are there to scripture.

Before we start let me clarify one thing, scripture also talks about what we call disputable matters which are the things not clear which is a different matter.

Logic follows that there is only one fully true interpretation of scripture. The next question is how does one come to know that singular truth and how can they then be assured to not stray from it, despite human nature?

Personally I do all I can to provide a checks and balance system so to speak....I have no less than 7 or 8 depending on how you count it things that I do when studying to make sure that I have it right....that doesn't mean I always get it right ;) but it does utilize what I have available to do what I can to ensure I don't get it wrong.

Mine are pretty simple, I try to remember that i’m Fairly young and often opinionated, I trust that my heart is open to the guidance of God’s will and that’s about it for me. I’m Willing to drop anything that isn’t the truth the second I realize it lol. It’s easy to run with something that makes sense because somebody you trust says it, but I try to go back and fact check nowadays which is dragging me more into the academic side of Christian study these days. I would never have considered that a possibility this time last year...

I think one of the most important parts of rightly dividing the word is to be teachable!  Amen

Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Psalms 51:11

And YHWH said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.
1 Kings 22:22

I will assume that we are speaking of interpretations for the "end-times".  There is one eschatology (study of the end-times) interpretation that is preached by 90% of the churches world wide and that is Amillennialism or No Millennium. God throughout the whole Bible tells us that there will be a literal Millennium where Jesus Christ will rule from David's THrone.

There are many interpretations that have some backing from the scriptures in the Bible and can be argued for or against. However, to embrace the above interpretation is very dangerous as it denies the WORD of GOD thus impugning the very character of GOD!.

the intent of the thread was all scripture but this discussion is going well, please continue...I personally see much of the end times teaching to be disputable matters, iow's not clear enough to make a whole theology around.

The book of Revelation was for the ekklesia of Asia (modern day Turkey).  These people rejected Paul, so it's not accurate to call them the seven churches of Asia. 2 Timothy 1:15

Do you have a better interpretation that can account for Paul being rejected?
