How do these two Biblical truths inform your theology?
« on: January 12, 2019, 11:13:59 am »
I've been stewing over the title because some people seem to see the title assume whatever they want and ignore the clarifications in the OP....so here is the clarification.

In Genesis 1:27

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

we see that God created man in His image....

In Ecclesiastes 12:13

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”

The duty of man is to fear God and obey Him.....

It seems that all too often we forget these passages when we look at the theology we hold to.  Maybe I am wrong it just seems to be what I see.  So how do these two Biblical truths inform your theology?

Hi Lori... Why are you stewing about those two verses?  In Genesis 1:27, Is it not wonderful to know that GOD loved us so much he made us in His image. Just the thought of seeing Him as HE is when He takes His Bride to Heaven does not make me "stew over" it but rather jump for joy in this knowing.

In  Ecclesiastes 12:13...God is talking to the Jewish People. We of course NEED to Fear GOD. For if we do not Fear GOD, than our existence is meaningless. We place Man's sovereignty over God's  sovereignty. If we fear GOD, we will follow where we are lead by the Holy Spirit. For those that do not fear God, their fate will be many times worse than the fate of the those in the land of Shinar,  the Tower of Babel in the time of Nimrod. Gen 11:1-6

While the Ten Commandments spoken of in Ecc 12:13 were for the Nation of Israel, many of those Commandments were again spoken by Jesus Christ and placed in His Gospel. These are the Commandments we of HIS Church need to follow.

Again, there is nothing to stew over, for those "Commandments of Moses" that could not possibly be fulfilled by His Bride were removed by Jesus Christ in His Gospel. 1 Cor 15:1-4

Fear, Love, Learning and Following the Gospel of Jesus Christ (according to Scriptures),HIS WORD, is the only path to righteousness.

I was stewing over the title not the verses....
Amen...how the Gen. passage affects my theology is in understanding how God sees others.  I think we often forget that we all, even the most obnoxious person has an image of God hiding beneath the layers of sin.  When we begin to see men through the eyes of God we see the image of perfection longing to be revealed.  Just my thoughts...

Again, amen...what I was thinking is that if our very nature is one of fellowship with God then no man can feel complete...thus still looking until he finds that fellowship we were created for.  IOW"s we are all seeking to be Loved by the Living God.  Proverbs 19:22 (NIV) What a person desires is unfailing love ; better to be poor than a liar.

HI Ms. Lori.....it is always good to speak with you.

Thank you, for your wonderful view of Gen 1:27; for your view is a view I have never considered much less thought about.  Thank you again.

There are many different kinds of fear and we will find all of them among Mankind.  When I was a Child, my mother was a home-Mom and she was always the one to discipline us children. But there was one thing that always brought fear to our hearts. That was of course Dad's belt.

It was not that we did not fear our mother's disciplinary actions, 'we did'. However, because of a mother's love, we also did not consider wrongfulness on our part as disappointing her but rather getting away with some thing forbidden.

Our Father on the other hand, instilled a fear in our hearts that was not about the physical pain but rather the thought of disappointing him.

This is exactly my fear of God. Not of His Judgement for I know it will be just.  The thought that HE has to make such a judgement against me for something I should not have done, thereby disobeying Him ties me up into knots.

To think that I can/have/will and do disappoint HIM breaks my heart.

Therefore I try abide by these words always:

'To obey Him relieves my fear of doing something to disappoint Him'

'To fear Him  creates an atmosphere of trying Never to disobey HIM'

I hope you have a very blessed evening for your valuable insights of our Lord thy GOD.

Bladerunner...thank you for your insights as well, I love discussions where we just share with one another and grow from one another.

The more I think about and pray over the passages the more I see them compliment each other.  I would paraphrase the Ecc. passage as we were made for fellowship with God.  If made for fellowship then wouldn't every fiber of our being be drawn to that fellowship?!  And if we are drawn to fellowship wouldn't be also be drawn to restore that original creation?!

Ephesians 5 talks about the marriage relationship especially between Christ and the Church.  In verse 25-27 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.

How precious of a picture of the original creation of man....a creation whose purpose was to be holy, cleansed by the word, radiant, without stain or wrinkle, without blemish and blameless.  As I see it, this is the image of Christ we are told about in Gen. and the restored creation God wants for us, the very reason Christ came.

Yet evil is so strong, we are told we would NOT turn to GOD unless He conditioned our hearts to hear HIS WORD. Only through the hearing of the WORD do we become to believe in our LORD JESUS.

His Love for us is so GREAT and those who believe and are in His Church will live forever by HIS side.  Yes, a Husband and a Wife.

Have a great evening Lori, got 22 little ones not, seemed like they have slowed down some,,,, Still about 80 something to go.
