Does your doctrine/theology limit God?
« on: October 14, 2019, 08:06:28 am »
This weekend as my husband and I were talking I was thinking about some of the theologies/doctrines I have heard and how much they limit God from being God.  It seems to me that anything we believe should mirror a belief that God is God and therefore can do anything He desires within the righteousness, the holiness, the Love that we are told in scripture that He is.  IOW's instead of our understanding of scripture telling us what God will or will not do, it should reflect the characteristics of God while allowing Him the "freedom" (not saying we can control God but that we sometimes try to) to be the God that He is.

So for discussion I am asking you what doctrines/theologies limit God to what we understand about Him verse those that open the door for Him to be Lord over all while remaining true to His nature, like that of a holy God, a just God, a God of Love.

All doctrine should be derived from the word of GOD... For a closer personal exposure, we have the indwelling Holy Spirit.

it should be based on a rightly divided word but we know from experience as well as conflicts in discussion boards that they aren't all based on a rightly divided word....thus the question

I think that often we try to create God in our image. Too much human thinking. His thoughts and ways are higher than ours.
Isa. 55:8“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways My ways,”
declares the LORD.
9“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so My ways are higher than your ways
and My thoughts than your thoughts.

For me, that's important to remember. I look at man's ways and thinking and try to compare that to God's ways and thinking. That helps me to better understand the scriptures and how man interprets them and how man views God.

A good start is reading the the whole book through a "literal, historical, grammatical, synthesis, and practical view".
