Do Whatever You Want: Freedom In Christ?
« on: February 06, 2019, 07:30:53 am »
I remember the day I was sitting, looking out over the river pondering my eternal state with God and this question popped into my head.

If God came to you right now and guaranteed that you were saved no matter what you did, how you behaved or how you treated your body, what would you start doing differently?

So I pass this question on to anyone caring to answer it.  If you can do anything you want to do and still be saved, what would you start doing and what would you stop doing.

I would immediately kill myself. No, kidding but I would be so thankful and humbled. I truly believe that I have that blessed assurance now anyway but I do not believe in OSAS anymore. I started listening to a young preacher who is all about obedience and repentance. So I suppose I would hit the road and preach Jesus Christ all day everyday. I would also stop wondering and worrying about death and dying.
Hearing, believing and trusting the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross; His death, burial and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins, the gospel of our salvation, and repenting, seals us with that Holy Spirit of Promise. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise. 2 Peter 3:9 KJV - 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV - Ephesians 1:10-14 KJV - Romans 10:9-10 KJV - Romans 10:13 - Romans 10:17 - Ephesians 1:7 KJV - Colossians 1:14 KJV -

Interesting?  I have always wondered about OSAS.  I suppose it all comes down to the way you view it.  God is omnipotent so He must know the ultimate fate of each man and thus know the ones that will be saved and those that will be lost.  Therefore from God's perspective it is OSAS.  But we are human and definitely NOT omnipotent so we can't know that.

We are saved by God through our faith so the only reason that I can see for losing it would be if we lost our faith.  Obedience and repentance appear to be part of the growth and discipline that Christ's yoke puts on us but thank God it is a training yoke.

Since it is our faith that connects us to God's salvation it would seem that the only way satan can attack and defeat us would be to destroy our faith since that is the only part that is our's to play.  I think that the devil knows this.  He knows that no matter how many times he gets us to mess up, God's grace abounds all the more.  It follows then that the only purpose in getting us to mess up is not to get us kicked out but to get us looking at ourselves and thinking God can't save us, thus destroying our faith.

Those are my thoughts on it anyway.

Agreed, and the enemy is working on me now. It seems that I go through cycles or phases where I feel very close to God and that I'm totally connected to His love and grace and power. Then I start to feel far away and I don't pray and God seems distant and my faith is tested or shaken a bit. Right now I'm torn between eternal security and obedience. The young guy I'm talking about is posted on this forum under the Anchored Alliance Forum under Joe the Tattooed Theist. One month ago I disagreed strongly with Jon Singleton but he does make sense. Watch or listen to a couple of his vids if you get time. Blade has done that and he disagrees with the kid's teachings.

I know we can't simply continue in willful sin once we are in Christ but how far does it go? Because I smoke cigs and occasionally weed, so is that willful sin? Then what about eating poorly and obesity and just plain overeating? Smoking is the only thing I do that's blatantly bad for my body, but we know that we sin in thought as well. This kid Jon acts like GT as if he obeys perfectly. He likes to "expose" popular preachers trying to gain an audience. I debated him live on flat earth so I like him and decided to ask him if I could post his videos. It just gets the dialogue going whether we agree with him or not.

Well, let's consider what Christ says about things consumed.

“Do you still not understand?” Jesus asked. “Do you not yet realize that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then is eliminated? But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these things defile a man ~Matt 15:16-18

In other words Jesus is saying that it is not what we consume that defiles us but it is what comes out of us is what defiles us.

The only way that we can have goodness in us to come out is to have God put it there and this means we don't resist.  I have struggles with doubts from time to time.  Especially when it comes to science, but at those times I simply choose to believe and realize that I don't need to know the how or even the why, I just need to trust Him.

Having times of struggling and doubt is totally normal.  That's why it is called faith.  As John put it in 1 John 3: 19-20 And by this we will know that we belong to the truth, and will assure our hearts in His presence: If our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts, and He knows all things.

Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you with speculation about what he has seen. Such a man is puffed up without basis by his unspiritual mind, and he loses connection to the head, from whom the whole body, supported and knit together by its joints and ligaments, grows as God causes it to grow.…Col 2:18-19

So I pass this question on to anyone caring to answer it.  If you can do anything you want to do and still be saved, what would you start doing and what would you stop doing.
I would continue in my bad habits of smoking, drinking a little, marijuana and occasional gambling. I believe that we can know we are saved in this life and we ARE saved by believing and trusting the finished work of Christ on the cross. Unbelief is what cut Israel off. Of course repentance is necessary as we cannot continue in willful sin. This would now get into what we regard as sinful. Jesus says it's not what goes into the body that defiles but rather, what comes out.

If I regard weed and alcohol in moderation to be not sinful then so be it. Who will put a stumblingblock before me? They are both products of nature. I was Catholic early in life so I feel guilt and shame over things that most others don't. I know I'm destroying my body with cigarettes and related things but I could also die in a million different other ways before tomorrow.

Knowing and speaking with God and being told that I am saved no matter what would most likely turn me into a preacher and public speaker of some kind like Joe the TF owner. If I had that conversation with God I would stop everything harmful to myself and eat healthier. I would probably still be on forums though, Hah !!!

My dear Bother in Christ.  As the True Christian, you say your are; I believe Jesus does not want you to go through life in a black and grey environment only eating Manna, wearing sackcloth everyday, etc.

If this were not the case: Then why has he given you taste buds and created Chocolate for your pleasure? Why did He give you color vision so you could see the creations He made and all its splendors in color. Why are you wearing blue jeans or other comfortable clothing, instead of sack cloth. I don't suppose you thought about where the great sirloin steak came from. A Cow,,,,,yes, a Cow GOD made!

Jesus wants us to live a good comfortable life but remember this, He made it all and He gave it to you (even though you may have bought it). It is all HIS!

Again, Listen to the Holy Spirit within you, for He will guide you, teach you and protect you from the evil forces of this world.

God comes FIRST in ALL THINGS

As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit--just as it has taught you, remain in him. 1 John 2:27

I know that I'm saved if I finish the race. I no longer believe in OSAS, there's just to many variables. I'm saved UNLESS I reject Jesus Christ in the future and IF it stands, as in if it my final statement to God. As far as I'm concerned that is impossible for me to do. I have actually tried to not believe in my lifetime and I can't do it. I tried to reject God and I cursed God. I did this from seeing the abuse of children, the elderly and helpless people. I could not accept the pain and suffering being experienced by innocent, good people. I haven't even mentioned the poor animals. I just thought God could do better.

I thought I could do better with the "minor" details of each and every precious life that God created. Maybe I would be more forgiving and more loving . . . If I was GOD. Foolishness that I didn't see at the time. I was younger and dumber. About 7 years ago I came back to seeking God. I have not been disappointed.

Romans 8:29-30 tells us "For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. v30...Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified."

John 6:39..."And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them up at the last day."  Is this (OSAS)? Sure looks like it to me .

To Deny Romans 8:29-30  and John 6:39 literal meanings would be to deny GOD and ones destiny.  A lot of people reject these two in favor of Free Will which they do not recognize they have had all along.

If ages past, GOD foreknew everyone and did see the outcomes of everything and everyone. For those that Loved and Believed in Him, He predestined  if for nothing else than to protect them(?) until He called them. Thereby conditioning their heart to accept HIM. For those He called, He tells us He did Justify (Salvation) and for those HE justified, He sanctified and glorified.

Please keep in mind, with the above verses, carnal Christians do not exist. Thus, OSAS does not give a license to sin to anyone.

The True Christian is walking toward Sanctification with the help of the Holy Spirit within them.

If the Holy Spirit is not within them, they DO NOT HAVE SALVATION! Thus they are Christians in name only.

I have always viewed OSAS as true from God's perspective.  From our point of view as men, it often does not appear that way, but the parable of the sower kind of lays it out clearly.  There were certain types of ground where the seed sprang up but did not flourish and survive, but the Ground the sower had prepared, bore fruit.

That is the way I see it currently at least.  I'm just glad God is in charge of it all.

John 15 King James Version (KJV)

15 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.

18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.

21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.

23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also.

24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

Re: Do Whatever You Want: Freedom In Christ?
