Re: A riddle for you all

A couple of years ago I was researching the Children's crusades of 1212 so I could write a book about it.  As I was studying the historical accounts I discovered a truth that is kind of a riddle and I wanted to see how many of you can figure it out.

So the riddle...when is being a slave a greater blessing than being a free "man"?
I was thinking about the story of Joseph and how his brothers sold him and he was taken into slavery in Egypt. Joseph was about 17 then I believe. I think about the things that happened to Joseph being sold into slavery, being wrongly accused by Potiphar's wife and being in prison;  Then I think about this bible verse:

Rom. 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

The good that came from what happened to Joseph.
Gen. 45:4 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Please come closer to me.” And they came closer. And he said, “I am your brother Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt. 5“And now do not be grieved or angry with yourselves, because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life. 6“For the famine has been in the land these two years, and there are still five years in which there will be neither plowing nor harvesting. 7“And God sent me before you to preserve for you a remnant in the earth, and to keep you alive by a great deliverance. 8 “Now, therefore, it was not you who sent me here, but God; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh and lord of all his household and ruler over all the land of Egypt.

God meant it for good; all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.
Gen. 50:20 But as for you, you thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save many people alive.

I can see how this was a blessing for Joseph; how being a slave was a greater blessing than being a free man and not only a greater blessing for Joseph but also for many people to help preserve them alive through the famine.
