I got to hear him live a few times... at Horizon Christian Fellowship in San Diego (before I ever moved here permanently).

For background, there was a pastor by the name of Chuck Smith who had an evangelical church and he welcomed in the 60's hippy beach bum crowd.  From that period came young leaders like Greg Laurie (Harvest Crusades) and Mike Macintosh (Horizon Christian Fellowship) and Chuck Missler-- Calvary Chapel.

Chuck Smith (not Missler) was the original founder of Calvary Chapels and he essentially franchised them.  He was like a modern day Paul the apostle (in terms of franchising churches).

Unfortunately, By bringing in this  youth and others, the leaders (younger now)  pretty soon ok'd other changes that resulted in the resignation of Chuck Smith...

Yes, Chuck was a founder of the Calvary Chapel and He was against bringing in the Hippies especially without the rules to throw them out if necessary.

We see the results of these rule changes in the Grace Community Church of John MacArthur., There He accepts all but they ar the ones who have to change, not the church.

The type of evangelical teaching at Calvary Chapel these days is the same as those mega churches where "Prosperity" Gospel (man's gospel) is preached.
