I have built several computers for myself. I spend some time looking up parts such as motherboards and processors. Then I add stuff like solid state hard drives, memory, and power supplies. It is relaxing to me. I also help my friends when their own PC's don't work well. This is usually done by running a good antivirus/antimalware program. There is usually a pile of unwanted programs that end up being installed. If the situation is really bad, I remove their hard drive, plug it into my PC so that is not the boot drive, and run those same programs. That usually does it.

I can use .bat and scripts if someone else has written them. I just modify them for my use. I know next to nothing about programming.

Jon, you'll end up with a lot of spare parts that you can use to troubleshoot problems. You'll also get friends who bring you 10 year old laptops that have Windows Vista or Windows Millennium loaded for the operating system. Just hand it back. Those machines cannot handle the new operating systems, never mind other programs. Ask me anything. If I don't know, I'll say so.
