Ecclesiasticus 32:8
“Let thy speech be short, comprehending much in few words; be as one that knoweth and yet holdeth his tongue.”
so many passages talk about being quick to listen and slow to speak but few people understand how to listen much less how to hold their tongue...may we learn to be obedient even in this.

So you have gone Catholic or Orthodox. While this book was once included with all the other apocryphal books usually ok'd by the ROC...and Orthodox Churches.
It actually was removed from the KJV simply because it had no Hebrew writings and is not considered divine. T\
Thus this is not GOD's wisdom but the wisdom of mankind. Believe I will stick with God's Words.

my husband just pointed out that the passage is Ecclesiasticus which though it was cut and pasted from the KJV, is not part of the traditional bible...that being said, the concept is throughout scripture so still open for discussion.

The apocrypha books were included with original KJV. (!611). Even the 1769 version will had these books attached to it..This shows the reach of the ROC and their cannon worship...However, in the early 1800, the protestants removed these books from the KJV....
You must be using an old Bible...I have one or two but only use them for reference.
As for the original subject; I will answer with GOD's Word....Acts 4:19...'................,Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye."

so your answer to God's command to listen more and talk less is that God is the judge???? What a strange response...don't you think that if God has commanded it, we already know how He will judge it?

The book of Ecclesiasticus while not considered canon is found in the three oldest complete books; The Vulgate, the Septuagint, and the Codex Sinaiticus. Scholars throughout the ages consider it important works that have an important story to tell. I do not know what the issue is in quoting it is you are not stating it as something divine. If you limit yourself to just the books that some group of men has determined are divine and all others do not count, then you are missing important parts of the stories and teachings from the Bible. In my humble opinion. You must understand that the divine words do have a backstory if you will and if you want to paint a complete picture of their meaning then by all means use the complete story. If you are a scripture snob that deletes from your own learning anything other than what you accept as holy and will consider nothing else, then that is on you, again my humble opinion. I think this constant hate for those willing to look at everything is only damaging and prevents real discussion and real Christian and religious growth. Like all things, it must be kept in the proper context or it can do damage, I agree there. AGAIN, just my humble opinion.
Again just my thoughts and no one else, but you get the same lesson of the youth being silent or to speak with consider to the point speech can be found in Job.
This is not a shot at anyone, but just an expression of my thoughts and feelings. All of you are my friends and I have learned too much from you all, but I feel I get to express my viewpoints also for discussion.
