Title: Who is qualified to interpret scripture?
Post by: guest24 on October 19, 2020, 08:08:56 am
With so many varying interpretations of scripture, who is qualified to interpret scripture?

2 Timothy 2:15

King James Version

15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

John 14:26

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

The flim flam of exegesis is that for anyone to get the meaning of a verse from the verse without any input from their mindset and unfiltered by their already existing ideas is on the order of Paul's conversion with a bright light and hearing GOD's voice.

Every interpretation of a verse is eisegesis, the fitting of the verse into previously accepted definitions.

Everyone chooses an interpretation that fits their view of the nature of reality, ie, no  one says they think a certain pov is totally  unreal and imaginary but choose to accept it as real anyway... The best one can say about the meaning of scripture is that it makes sense to them from their pov of the essence of reality. If they truly believe GOD is perfectly loving for instance they may reject the belief that HE creates us, brings us into life and awareness, as sinful (in Adam or not), as it is espoused by most of the Church.

My answer from the verses in the OP would be everyone who is being taught by the HS through study of the Word.

If one reads the Bible literally, God's Word will interpret it for you.

I'd be willing to bet I read scripture more literally than you do but scripture says that we are to do more than just read it, we are to study it...study, not listen to other teachers, not just read, but study...

If we are NOT obedient to study, how can we expect God to interpret it for us?
