says: I have a pretty good affinity for introspective thought lol so i find myself more engaged in my own head and heart than the outside world nearly constantly. If that happens in reality, how often does it come into bible study? You know? Lol

says: I agree with everything you say here...it's an interesting study I am anxious to see the outcome to and we often don't (all of us) listen to God. There are well over 1000 passages in scripture that tell us to listen and yet, more times than not all we listen to is our own wisdom rather than God's.
|

says: My thoughts on the thread you suggest are that is there is a rightly divided understanding, there is only one. However, I can only guess that I am one of the ones who possesses that understands the truth. I can desire to follow on the truth all that I want, but I may unintentionally get in my own way.

says: That is good reasoning. I also don’t trust that I ALWAYS allow the HS to show me the truth, whether I intend to or not. My opinion sneaks in there even if I don’t realize it in there, though I keep a vigilant eye for my own insertions into scripture. I know these things of myself. The study i’m Looking at is a little more statistical in nature. I have my opinions as a Christian, I also have my opinions as someone who has taking a liking to the study of the nature of the Christian religion. (Moreso the human aspect)

says: How about starting a thread about whether or not there is only one rightly divided understanding to the scriptures?

says: Self discipline is a fruit of the spirit which is why practicing self control including exegesis rather than eisegesis is so important. In fact, if there is only ONE God (yes I believe there is) then there can be only ONE right interpretation given to us understanding through that ONE Spirit. Just a thought for what it's worth. The problem is that most people don't trust the HS to show them truth.

says: I guess I could put it to a vote for anyone interested at TF to figure what I wanna use in the OT...

says: I just said to myself “if I was smarter, I could be the absent minded professor” so that’s a pretty funny coincidence lol. I do plan on sharing it if I can ever make myself fully follow through lol. I do attempt to read in context as much as one can fight their own nature. The theoretical problem there is, as far removed as we are from the original authors of scripture we can’t help but to add a little eisegesis to go off of. (At least that’s my opinion) lol
|
| October 05, 2018, 12:15:28 pm
says: I'm not sure I have a suggestion on that one.
|
| October 05, 2018, 12:13:33 pm
says: I’ll be using A part of John as well as Revelations, I haven’t quite figured out what I want to use as OT reference. I’m thinking Obadiah and Isaiah maybe, i’d Like a standard kind of more easy to read reference in both testaments as well as a representation of something more “prophesy heavy” to give a good “average” to base things from

says: We say Brian has AMPS...Absent minded professor syndrome...interesting study are you going to share it with us when you finish? Of course the intended meaning of a word is shown through context but few people seem to want to use context these days.

says: My wife knows how you feel, i’m Sort of absent-minded myself so that adds a little more to it for her. Well, essentially looking at the recurrence of words in the Bible and using a little bit of math, to show how easy it is for people (even using the same version of the Bible) to interpret the Bible in a completely different flavor from the next person. Even while interpreting in a literalist manner. So, long story short, i’m Counting words and then i’m Counting definitions, coming up with an average to compare things to and trying to use it to explain why we all have problems communicating even with scripture lol

says: so what are you studying if you don't mind sharing.

says: I am a bit upset with Brian at the moment, I told him over a month ago that we needed to get busy on making a wedding gift we would be needing. He kept putting it off...tomorrow is the wedding...I like having time to get things done...just saying

says: I like to tell myself it’s the layman’s version of scholarly research haha
|
| October 05, 2018, 11:43:22 am
says: I’m kind of excited even if the work is sort of tedious (if that makes sense). I’m sure it’s a study that’s been done before, but as lazy as I can be, I still like to do my own work for confirmation lol
|
| October 05, 2018, 11:40:31 am
says: Yeah, I could make a career at ‘crastination myself lol. I Actually just started doing some work for a thread I hope to get around to one of these days... let’s just say that I could not be an effective religious studies scholar lol. I’ve already had to pare the work down drastically so it wouldn’t be so daunting lol
