March 17, 2021, 08:39:59 am says: when our kids were young, we took them to church all the time, as a pastor's family, it was expected but even when Brian was not pastoring we usually went.  Our kids grew up with that being part of their life, but they also saw the dangers of it.  In fact, the church we now go to, when we were starting to go there, our youngest said, "is it time for them to leave..." you see, our kids have been abuse by the same church that claimed to be family.  Literal abuse. They also saw the church abuse their mom and dad, literally.  To add insult to injury, they saw other pastor family friends abused as well.  They do not go to church to this day.  By contrast, we love on the people at the church, especially the kids.  The result has been amazing.  Young kids that don't do well in church look forward to coming and sitting with us.  Young adult kids will run up to us outside of church and hug us and talk when they would usually just walk by with a "hi"...we have teens in the church that make a beeline to us every chance they get and even some who have confided in us and we don't even work with the youth.  In fact, some of the youth come to us rather than going to the youth leader or pastor.  It's all about making them feel like they belong and are wanted and have the value that God Himself places on them.  They have something to look forward to when they come to church that the world cannot give them but true believers will have in abundance...LOVE...we need to Love our kids into church. Yes sometimes that takes on the form of email or text since they live in that world but it all boils down to one question, are we Loving them with the Love of Christ, so that God is revealed to them in a way that they cannot and will not forsake.  That cannot happen without a face to face experience nor can it happen through entertainment or many of the other things that are being tried today

Okay, enough of my rant for the day....Love them, even when it hurts and you will be showing them the Love of an invisible God whose Love far outdoes ours for them.

March 16, 2021, 05:50:36 pm says: I am old school like you Lori and believe if a child is raised in a God-loving, church-going environment with no force to participate.  That allows them to ask questions and to learn, they will stay engaged.  But I have witnessed each generation after mine pulls further and further away from Church and some abandoning religion altogether.  The exception is those that have engaged with getting their religion and church from online new age style Christian base churches.   I have watched some of these after I had attended the traditional Church and honestly found no differences in the message or content.   The 20agers I watch with when asked about communion stated they go in person once a month for that, the rest of the time this works just fine.    This tells me that the Christian Religion needs to evolve in some aspects.  While those of us still holding on dearly to our ways we grew up with and are comfortable with,  that will not work for the new group coming up.  We need to be flexible while still showing the need for traditions.  Again it is just my observation and opinion.

March 16, 2021, 07:37:57 am says: Good morning Mark...I would say that one of the best ways to attract and keep youth in our churches is to make them part of a community that resembles family more so than just a group of like-minded individuals coming together to sit for an hours and listen to some guy preach.  When the "kids" invest in others and others invest in them, something happens and you no longer can pull away a easily as you once could...works for older people too.
March 15, 2021, 10:23:04 pm says: One of the fastest-growing religions in Britain over the last three years is Jedi.    In the absence of a religion that the youth and young adults can identify with and feel includes them, they will reach out to anything that makes them feel close to any diety.   That is what is killing Christianity is we have not kept up on what will bring them back, instead of the fewer we have the more we alienate the very people we need to attract.  We do not need to sell out values, beliefs or faith.  We need to find creative ways to make it relatable.
