New Testament Prophecy On the Apostasy
Bernard Pyron

II Thessalonians 2: 3 says "Let no man deceive you by any means for
that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and
that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition."

Luke 13: 21 says "It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid
in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened." The word till
indicates the leavening occurs over time.  What is predicted  to be leavened?
In Luke 13: 20 what is to be leavened is the Kingdom of God.

Paul in I Corinthians 5: 6-7 warns that "Know ye not that a little
leaven leaveneth the whole lump?
7. Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as
ye are unleavened."

He is warning that a little bit of false doctrine will grow and
contaminate the entire loaf, that is, a little bit of false doctrine
will increase over time and make an entire ministry impure in its
teachings.

"And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many." Matthew 24: 11

"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some
shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and
doctrines of devils;" I Timothy 4: 1

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;"   I Timothy 4: 3

"But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and
being deceived." II Timothy 3: 13.

Paul's prophecy about the personality traits of people in the last days
when perilous times shall come is also a prophecy of the falling away
from the Gospel once delivered to the saints. "This know also, that in
the last days perilous times shall come.
2. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters,
proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3. Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers,
incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4. Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from
such turn away.
6. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive
silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7. Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the
truth." II Timothy 3: 1-7

Paul is not talking only about non-Christians here, but also about
Christians, because what he is saying describes a whole generation of
people in the last days, and more than one generation. It is almost as
though Paul has looked ahead to the counterculture of the sixties and
seventies.

And II Timothy 3: 4-8 is about people in the congregations.

"But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2.  And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
3.  And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not."  II Peter 2: 1-3

Apostasy as a falling away from sound doctrine is something different in meaning from dispensationalism's Great Tribulation which its followers believe is to occur at the end of the Church Age.  The New Testament prophecy just gone over on the falling away from sound doctrine does not indicate when this is to occur.  It could occur more than once during the so called Church Age.  And beware of the Preterist idea that the prophecy of the  falling away from sound doctrine was fulfilled in the First Century.

bernardpyron,  if one will read Rev 2,3... they will find seven letters that Jesus wrote to seven Churches. Why these churches as there were literally hundreds of churches in the land at this time. Each of these churches had a specific problem that He addresses, each church received all seven letters and each church represents a time period between then and now. The First three church letters are a little different than the remaining four. The first three churches are no more. The last four churches are still around to this day.

Check out each letter and try to identify what the good parts were, their bad parts, what Jesus told them they needed to works on. etc. Try to identify the Apostasy, Jesus speaks of.

Several texts in the Book of Revelation are a prophecy of a coming apostasy in metaphoric language,   Some have interpreted the figures and actions in Revelation 9 as being metaphoric for an apostasy, with two classes of actors of the apostasy, the scorpions and the serpents, with the serpents being the priest class.

Revelation 12, is another prophecy of an apostasy, especially verses15-17, where a remnant stands to oppose the flood out of the mouth of the  serpent-dragon, with the remnant having  the testimony of Jesus Christ,  The presence of a remnant implies a falling away from sound doctrine, since at a time of apostasy God raises up a remnant faithful to his word to carry on the work of redemption

Then in Revelation 13: 11-18 there is the False Prophet, not necessarily as one man,  who in verse 11 has two horns like a lamb and speaks as a dragon.  James Lloyd and others have interpreted this to refer to the use of the dialectic by Satan.   Lloyd, I believe, got this idea from Dean Gotcher.

The Apostasy you speak is in the period of Grace today. After the Church (Body/Bride of Christ) is removed from this earth, there are NO believers left except the 144,000 Jewish ministries. Any apostasy further that Rev 4.1, is caused by the False Prophet for the benefit of the antichrist.
