I want to write a book. It will be 'fictional" even though I believe it's true. I don't know if I should write it as an observer narrating the story or if I should write it like a script. It will be a flat earth blockbuster.

I think the old written as a play or as a series of emails or letters are a niche needing explored.  Maybe one of those would work.  I always wanted to do one as a series of reports being sent in from a reporter in the field.  You get to be narrative but state it as a first hand observer.

I would like collaboration from the forum members on this site including ideas, thoughts and lines in the book/script. I am concerned about people stealing the story or the ideas but I don't want to use Microsoft or Wordpress. I need a place to "write" and edit as I go etc.

Anyone could read this thread and steal the story so I'm not sure where to write it.

I once wrote an entire story on a forum (that no longer exists) in a series of posts contained in a single thread.  --Of course I wasn't worried about anyone stealing it because I wrote it for fun, simply to tell a familiar story in a different way, but in the end it was an enjoyable experience to share that way.  It just came to me, undeveloped, unedited- word by word as I typed it paragraph by paragraph (entry by entry) hitting the "Post" button all along the way.  I didn't know the story when I started, and didn't know where it was going.

When that forum disappeared from the Internet, all those many posts were lost.  One particular thread that my cowboy friend "Time" had started had more than 100k views when the forum crashed.  Prior to that I'd printed out much of it and put into a binder that I still have and refer to at times-  but that story I had written was not part of that thread.  Your post here reminded me of it and that story.  Out of the blue, someone had kept their own printout of it that they shared with me--I'll have to dig it up.

If you hope to turn a story into a screenplay or a book, you shouldn't post any of it.  It's at risk if you share it with anyone but most trusted friends or professionals who can offer non-disclosure agreement.  Ask Mark Sanford- he can certainly advise you--- there are others- I think SwordMaster said that he had written several books as well.

Good luck!  -may you find inspiration with every breath you take!

pj, how much writing have you done?  Are you an architect or a gardener when it comes to writing?  How long do you want the work?

Well I got an A in college in writing but I wasn't really trying lol. I do the outline in my head and give a lot of thought to a story before I even begin to type or write.

To tell you how long it's been I am used to writing in cursive by hand. My mind flows better that way but it's been a long time. There are so many places I could start the story or the opening scene.

Thank you brother. I have thought of doing it the way you describe and it would probably help me think of content that I wouldn't have thought of otherwise. It could help me to to write my book.

I've always thought that maybe I have at least one book in me to write. Off the top of my head there are two dudes gettin' high and talking about God and the earth, but I could start at NASA or anywhere for the opening so it's tough to decide.

This could be a story of a group of friends and one or two of the friends hears about flat earth theory, sets out to debunk it and ends believing the earth is a motionless plane.

This would allow for lots of dialogue, kind of 1984ish maybe, with cutaways to NASA scientists and engineers discussing certain things. That's where I would need to research more about their "language" and just exactly what they know and "see" with their own eyes.

I could also go the direction of the mainstream and let the FEers look like dysfunctional stoners with crazy beliefs about earth. I don't think a big movie label will produce a film where flat earthers are proven right. :D

sounds like you are more of an architect than a gardener, there is no question, I am a gardener.  Not sure how much help I can offer an architect.

Think along the lines of (the wildly successful) Dan Brown books like DaVinci Code, Angels and Demons, et. al.  People LOVE a good rabbit trail conspiracy story.  Don't see your idea short.  I'd make one of your lead characters a NASA insider who sees too much, or overhears something sinister, who then has to convince her skeptic husband (who serves as type of the masses at large).

Hope that helps.
