According to official numbers from mid-March through April 23, more than 26 million Americans newly applied for unemployment benefits.

According to the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), the real number is much higher as 13.9 million Americans haven’t filed for benefits or their applications weren’t processed because of a clogged system.

In the USA, pigs, chickens and (other) cattle are killed without being processed into meat for consumption.
At least two million farm animals have already been culled.

In Wisconsin and Ohio, farmers are dumping thousands of gallons of fresh milk.
An Idaho farmer has buried 1 million pounds of onions.
In South Florida tractors are destroying perfectly ripe bean and cabbage fields.

One explanation for this calamity, which could cause worldwide famine, is meat plant closures in the US.

According to the Trump-supporting media, President Donald has invoked the Defense Production Act to save American meat.
According to Socialist propaganda President Donald is forcing vulnerable people back to work, under the danger of becoming infected with (the far from fatal) mutated coronavirus.

I think it’s just another case of totalitarian control as the Defense Production Act gives the Trump administration power over private industries.
It also authorises President Donald to use loans, direct purchases and other incentives to boost the profits of selected suppliers.
