It makes a great study as to why we are not to seek after signs with wonders or sign that cause mankind to marvel rather than seeking by faith as it is written . Jesus referred to those who do seek after sign to wonder after as a evil generation unconverted mankind .
Unlike the righteous generation of these born again from above found with the righteousness of Christ. Nothing magical about it 

John3 is a great place to show the workings .There Nicodemus one who did seek after a sign before he would believe. was revealed the greatest miracle possible "born again eternal life".  Jesus declared to Him marvel or "wonder not" but rather believe what we hear from prophecy . The Jews at the time of Moses walked by faith according to the promises to Abraham  400 years earlier. Moses and Aaron were challenged by the magicians that had no faith coming from prophecy because they did not believe God.  God gave them two signs that promised to kill their first born in order to literal change there previous conviction.  Giving the sign of circumcision to represent the children of God . God moved the unbeliever to let his people go .
