It reality darkness is not a thing.  It is the absence of a thing.  Musch like a hole is the absence of material but without that material present we don't have a hole.

I agree. But in the physical the object blocking the light does not change its light blocking state as time goes on, while that which blocks GOD's light, HIS perfect character, by a free will decision to stand against it, it does change: Gal 5:9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump.which means that a little sin corrupts the whole person, community, world, reality if left to grow....it is the main reason that banishment to the outer darkness is an absolute necessity.

Thus I argue that evil does become  'thing' so to speak as it takes over and imbues the person with its essence by a total addiction to its qualities of evil. In this way I believe that a person may become the embodiment of evil and is itself evil incarnate, an evil thing.

I came to feel that the  adage, dark is just the absence of light was used to mitigate the evil of people or to exonerate them somehow, to downplay the existence and power of evil..I was not pleased when Christians picked it up and think it says somethings special about Satan, that thing which is evil and embodies evil perfectly...Satan who would monster the most holy old man in the world just because GOD asked, "Have you considered my servant Job...?"

In all the reprobate, eternally evil demonic goats, ie, the people of the evil one sown here by the devil, evil is a thing incarnate and it must be banished.

Darkness is the absence of light. God is light and if you are saved, you live in the light.

Light might define dark (which I hope is what you were trying to say) but it does NOT create it by its being light!!!
Without light how would you define darkness?
Ummm, didn't I just answer that? Light defines darkness as all that is not light and is against the light and blocks the light but LIGHT CANNOT CREATE THE DARK ! either in the physical world or the spiritual (theological) realms.

I was going through and repairing some of my older post. Not changing them, repairing as in changing the colors, formats.

Anyway, I run upon this one and began to think about my childhood where the Boy Scouts of America was an upstanding program from the young person. During one of our outings into the wilderness (the country side, another story) we found ourselves in a darkness that was so thick and black, it had a feel to it...Other than that I cannot explain how it felt but I can tell you the darkness 500 foot underground in a cave is that dark.

One does not have to wonder to much to understand why crayfish (crawdads) in the waters of the cave were without color in their skin. They could not see in total darkness therefore they had no eyes.

There is a darkness described in the Bible as being so dark that it had a feeling to it. This darkness was on the temporary temple as the Jewish people were in the wilderness...(another story)
