« on: November 05, 2020, 06:55:28 am »

While the Appalachian Mountains stretch from parts of Canada to Alabama, the cultural region of Appalachia typically refers only to the central and southern portions ranging from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, south-westerly to the Great Smoky Mountains, and is called home by approximately 25 million people.

    Fourth year Anniversary
I am descended from  grandmother Virginia Blackburn Pyron's Blackburns, who were known as being Scots-Irish, and participated in the Scots-Irish migration on the Great Wagon Road, or Migration Trail, which ended in Texas. For many Scots-Irish. migrating on to Texas was the final goal of their Migration Trail. The Great Wagon Road went through the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia where our ancestor Blackburns lived at the time of the Revolutionary War.

"Robert Blackburn (b. 1742, d. February 09, 1808)
Robert Blackburn (son of Benjamin Blackburn and Mary)212 was born 1742 in Rye Cove, Scott Co., VA213, and died February 09, 1808 in Tennessee213.He married Margarete Ritchie on Abt. 1766 in Cedar Creek Presbyterian Church, Augusta County, Virginia213."

Augusta county. Virginia is in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

"Captain in the military in Augusta County, VA

In July 6, 1782, he fought the Shawnee attack with two scouts and 20 men at Fort on Rye Cove of Clinch river, Virginia.
Born in Rye Cove on the Clinch River, Scott County, Tennessee
Robert Blackburn and Margaret Ritchie were the parents of 13
children. Robert was a real frontiersman as were the rest of the family. He
moved to the edge of the settlements in TN and was at one time forced to flee
to the fort Campbell's Station, when Indians burned his cabin. Campbell's
Station is located near Maryville and Knoxville, TN. (this is info. I (Miriam Blackburn) found
in a book about TN). Robert moved to Davidson Co. TN and probably died there.
Mr. Challacomb did not have conclusive info on the date of his death. One informant
said he died Feb. 9, 1809 "

Robert Blackburn, 1742-1809 has a DAR Ancestor Number, which is A010690, and indicates he is a Veteran of the Revolutionary war. He also fought Indians

Robert Blackburn, 1742-1809, was the great grandfather of my Pyron grandmother Virginia Blackburn Pyron, 1857-1943.

The father of my Pyron grandmother was Gideon Blake Blackburn, who, with his brothers, migrated on to the Republic of Texas from Tennessee.  Great grandfather's voting record while living in the Republic of Texas is online, as proof he had been a citizen of the Republic.  His brother, John L.D. Blackburn, was in the Texas Army and in the Mier Expedition

Thank you for this it's very interesting and I love history like this. I might post a thread on White Horse Theology and you could post this there as well. I was just in Texas for 7 days to see my lady. I was in Mineola, Longview, then Dallas and back home.
